Volunteering
PND stemmed from a huge volunteering and mutual aid spirit. It all began with some well-intended friends and relatives who worked as volunteers at the residential Summer Camps in Casa Astro, in the Serra de Monchique.
As years passed by, youngsters who attended the Summer Camps grew up and, consequently, the project grew up with them. A group of 15 youngsters attended the first PND Monitor Training Camp and from then on they became the summer camps’ monitors, bringing new life to the project and a new-found will to host activities not just during the summer but also throughout the year.
Currently, we are working with dozens of young volunteers of different ages, from all over the country. Some of them grew up taking part in our activities and wanted to pursuit their path as monitors.
It was thanks to these youngsters and their initiative and volunteering spirit that we accomplished our goals and overcame several challenges throughout the last 15 years.
Based on this strong volunteering spirit we were able to create a team of young and very active leaders, which keeps growing continuously. Project New Discoveries is a open project, as it’s always willing to grow and to accept new ideas and values.
